NICE BIRD

Poster / Giclée printing / 2026

We live to fabricate images of ourselves, carefully edited shards, shiny and luminescent, resembling sunlight, a happiness, a certainty, and a progress perspective. Every picture is an announcement of who we are, not the unknown. But I’m sure there are shadows casted behind that camera. There’s no day without the night, after all, we sleep in it, we fear it, we die in it. Yet modern society sees darkness as failure, rather than a place of transformation, because the real prison isn't gore, it's perfection. Polished, so reflective, that our identities become untouchable, reducing ourselves to RGB screens and CMYK prints of something that once felt colourful. The more we feed and exacerbate ourselves, the less room there is for doubt or reinvention. From bright to dark, it isn't erasing the shadows, but to burn off what no longer belongs to us. And so, real beauty transcends necessity, because it doesn't exist to be functional or convenient, it exists because it’s a critical, cope and survival tool of evolution, that also makes your mind wander. Beauty isn't found in perfection, but in the conflict and state of who we pretend to be, and who we become when naked. Maybe we are scared of absence of light, not because it’s dark, but because it is a place where we find ourselves stranded to see without our eyes, and perhaps that's why the strange and obscure terrifies us. Scars, forgotten memories, just make up this fire, and if burned for long enough, all it’s left is the real person we are.
